Reefer Tavria stuck in ice off Kamchatka

Transport reefer Tavria stuck in ice to the east of Kamchatka coast, reports RIA Novosti referring to Roman Baikalov, deputy chief of EMERCOM Kamchatka Branch.

"As reported by coordinator of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski maritime rescue center, Tavria is blocked in ice 25 km off Ossora settlement, Karaginsky district", said Mr. Baikalov.

According to him, the vessel is not squeezed by ice; 15-men crew is safe and full of water, food and fuel resource; shipmaster has not asked for help.

"Along with ice floe the reefer is drifting towards the ocean and if the weather is not changed Tavria will free from the ice in 2-3 days", Baikalov said.

Rescue vessel is ready at the port of Petropavlovsk; if needed, food and water supplies will be delivered to the reefer by helicopter, added the interviewee.

Transport reefer Tavria has length of 50 meters and displacement of 1,200 tons; the ship is registered at the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski. The reefer was built in 1988; shipowner is Velest Ltd.
