Sevmash to introduce modular shipbuilding method

Defense shipyard Sevmash (Severodvinsk) will introduce progressive modular shipbuilding method, reported the yard's press service having specified that "prospective development plan of the shipyard has been approved by Russian Ministry of Economic Development".
Modular shipbuilding method is widely applied worldwide. By expert estimate, implementation of plans on technical retooling and modernization of Sevmash will ensure creation of up-to-date shipbuilding complex in Severodvinsk and effective production of competitive maritime equipment both under defense and civil orders.
"Billions of rubles will be spent on development, including the shipyard's own incomes", pointed out Nikolai Kalistratov, Director General of Sevmash.
The shipyard's primary purpose is building nuclear-powered subs for the Navy. Over 25,000 employees work at this Severodvinsk's major employer. Since its establishment in 1939, Sevmash has built 163 submarines, including 128 nuclear-powered ones. Recently, the yard opened up production of sea platforms for oil-and-gas industry.
