OJSC Admiralteyskie Verfi and OJSC Baltiysky Zavod (both in St. Petersburg) may get orders to build two Mistral-type ships. This matter is being presently considered, although other details are unknown, said Vladimir Aleksandrov, Director General of Admiralteyskie Verfi. According to him, both shipyards are capable to execute such order.

Reportedly, the French president Nicolas Sarkozy had previously said that two out of four ships may be constructed in Russia. According to him, so far parties have made arrangements about the first helicopter carrier to be constructed in French Saint-Nazaire. In total, it is planned to build four ships.

Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard (branch of Western Shipbuilding Center, United Shipbuilding Corporation) was established in 1704. Admiralteyskie Verfi is specialized in building of submarines. As of today, the shipyard has built over 300 submarines (including 41 nuclear-powered ones) and 68 deep-sea submersibles.

Baltiysky Zavod was established in 1856. Through 150 years the shipyard has been one of the leaders of Russian shipbuilding industry. The yard is specialized in warships, large-capacity civil vessels for various types of cargo, and icebreakers (nuclear-powered and diesel ones). The shipyard also builds Ro Ro and Ro Pax cargo-and-passenger ships, chemical tankers, bulkers etc.
