Russian warships to hold exercises and cruises till the very end of 2010

At summer training period Russian warships will participate in the number of large-scale exercises including Vostok 2010 and call at ports of 20 countries, reported Tuesday RIA Novosti referring to a source in Ministry of Defense Press Service and Information Department.

In June 1 Russian Navy starts summer training period which will imply active combat training at all naval formations and warships.

"Russian Navy's ships will continue regular presence near the Horn of Africa and in the Gulf of Aden to provide security of shipping, and take part in numerous international exercises. Among them are Pomor 2010, FRUKUS 2010, BALTOPS, and Ocean Spirit. Black Sea Fleet (BSF) will participate in the Russian-Ukrainian exercise Fairway of Peace which was recently resumed. In addition, BSF will attend the subsequent activation of BLACKSEAFOR", said the Navy spokesman.

The major combat activity of Russian Navy will be participation in the large scale exercise Vostok 2010. Assigned forces are presently preparing for these maneuvers.

Besides, it is planned that in second half of 2010 Russian warships will conduct somewhat 50 calls at the ports of about 20 countries.

In the nearest time Baltic Fleet (BF) large landing ship Kaliningrad will visit Polish port Gdynia (June 4) before the BALTOPS international exercise, and attend traditional sailing event Kiel Week (Kiel, Germany) on June 18.

Northern Fleet (NF) large ASW ship Severomorsk will call at Norwegian port Hokonsvern in June 4-6 within the framework of Russian-Norwegian exercise Pomor 2010.

At summer training period warships of Northern, Pacific, and Black Sea fleets will continue performing tasks of ocean deployment. BSF Guard missile cruiser Moskva, NF heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Petr Veliky, and support force have already completed the first stage of Russian Navy's deployment in the ocean zone.
