High points list 2010 by the Central Navy Portal 29.12.2010 The Central Navy Portal has selected the Russian Navy's most significant events of 2010.

10. Russia continues exporting naval arms, repairs and upgrades foreign warships. Two Project 11661 Gepard-3.9 frigates have been built for Vietnam; patrol corvette Triglav was delivered to Slovenia; a Kilo class submarine was laid down and batch production of corvettes Svetlyak for Vietnam goes on; first missile boat for Turkmenistan is being tested; repair and modernization of Algerian corvettes is coming to the end. Aircraft carrier Vikramaditya and Project 11356 frigates are being built for India at full speed. Tranzas company started modernization of electronic mapping navigation systems for Indian warships.

9. Reform of military education continues with outstripping speed. Navy scientific center named Kuznetsov Naval Academy was established, although enrollment into naval educational institutions was canceled due to surplus amount of officers.

8. Russian Navy turned out to be powerless in front of the summer wild fires. Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky and his deputy Alexander Tatarinov received a service incompetence note because of a wild fire at Navy airbase in Moscow region. The base commander was dismissed by presidential order, but brought a case before a court and won it.

7. The Navy is being reinforced with new warships. Nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Alexander Nevsky and nuclear-powered attack submarine Severodvinsk were launched. Diesel electric submarine B-585 St. Petersburg was commissioned into Baltic Fleet. Project 21631 small-size missile ship Grad Sviyazhsk was laid down. Project 22350 frigate Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov and Project 20380 corvette Soobrazitelny were launched. Salvage tug RB-39 was commissioned into Caspian Flotilla; derrick barge VTR-79 joined Northern Fleet. Diesel electric submarine Novorossiysk and Project 11356 Admiral Grigorovich were laid down for Black Sea Fleet.

6. Negative trend to depart from traditions of Soviet/Russian Imperial Navy has been developed. Russian Navy's No.1 ship is manned only with 3 servicemen; new ships still obtain names without consideration of historical traditions.

5. Russian Navy keeps its presence in the World Ocean. Dozens of significant cruises and exercises were covered by various media agencies.

4. Russia and Ukraine signed an agreement prolonging presence of Russia's Black Sea Fleet in Crimea till 2042 with possible 5-year extension.

3. Defect origin of submarine-launched ballistic missile Bulava was revealed.

2. Four strategic commands were established in Russia – "West", "East", "Center", and "South"; fleets were reassigned to those strategic commands. Transfer of Navy Main HQ from Moscow to St. Petersburg was canceled.

1. International consortium consisting of French company DCNS and Russian JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation won the Russian Navy's tender for Mistral class assault landing ships.
