Pomor-2012 Exercise Finished with Call at Bodø, Norway 17.05.2012
Text: Western Military District Press Service
Northern Fleet (NF) destroyer Admiral Chabanenko, Norwegian frigate Fridtjof Nansen and offshore patrol ship Senja on May 16 completed the Pomor-2012 bilateral naval exercise and called at the port of Bodø, Norway.

The ships arrived at Bodø, the base for Norwegian main operational command, and were met by bilateral official delegation. NF Deputy Commander RADM Andrei Volozhinsky accompanied by Norwegian high-ranking officers was the first who got aboard destroyer Admiral Chabanenko. Volozhinsky arrived in Norway to take part in the Pomor-2012 summary conference.

On the previous day, participants of the joint exercise practiced search and rescue of "distressed" mariners in severe weather conditions. Sea disturbance in the Norwegian Sea exceeded force 5, and wind speed was about 15 mps. Russian helicopter Ka-27PS and Norwegian patrol airplane Orion were involved in the search-and-rescue drill.

Aircrew of Russian Ka-27PS helicopter detected "distressed" people at sea and transmitted their position coordinates to destroyer Admiral Chabanenko. The ship promptly arrived at the site and picked the sufferers aboard.

The Pomor-2012 Russian-Norwegian joint exercise started on May 11 when destroyer Admiral Chabanenko and Norwegian frigate Fridtjof Nansen left the NF main base Severomorsk for the exercise site.

In total, Russian and Norwegian ships have covered about 800 nautical miles through the exercise, successfully performed over 20 combat training activities including firing drills.

During the visit to Norway, the crew of Admiral Chabanenko will attend festivities related to the Norwegian Constitution Day.
