Since Jan 1, salary of a nuclear submarine commanding officer at Pacific Fleet is larger than Russian defense minister's one, said Anatoly Serdiukov who heads the abovementioned agency.

"If he [nuclear submarine commander] serves, say, on Kamchatka, I think, he gets even more", Serdiukov said answering the question about military pay issues.

The head of defense ministry said that in the interview to the Itogi magazine published on Monday, reports RIA Novosti.

According to Serdiukov, since Jan 1, 2012 military pay consists of two parts, basic and stimulatory ones. The latter part includes various perks like long-service pay, secrecy pay and so forth.

"And that is no longer a humiliating pittance but high money!" defense minister told the magazine.

Officer monetary allowance has been considerably increased this year in Russia. For one, an average lieutenant monthly gets RUR 50,000 (about $1,700).

According to different sources, average monthly earning of a Russian federal minister, including salary and various bonuses, makes about RUR 250,000 (somewhat $8,400).
