Kamchatka hosts antiterrorist exercises involving Pacific Fleet special forces

Kamchatka hosts antiterrorist exercises involving Pacific Fleet special forces 03.03.2009
Antiterrorist exercises were staged in the closed military town of Viliuchinsk in Kamchatka, the Russian Pacific Fleet announced.

Close interaction between security forces and local officials was drilled during the exercises. In the scenario of the exercises, terrorists had captured a group of officials during a solemn meeting at the Naval officers' club in Viliuchinsk and had put forth a number of demands, promising to execute the hostages if the demands were not met.

All attempts to convince the terrorists to release the hostages and surrender failed. The command of the ad-hoc group set up to manage the crisis decided to storm the building in order to release the hostages and neutralize the terrorists. Special forces of the Pacific Fleet took part in the operation. They successfully completed their mission and earned high marks from the umpires.
