MiG-29K deck-based fighter was tested on Admiral Kuznetsov

MiG-29K deck-based fighter was tested on Admiral Kuznetsov 30.09.2009
Russian aircraft-building corporation MiG conducted successful flight tests of deck-based fighters MiG-29K on heavy air-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov, says ITAR-TASS referring to the manufacturer's press service.

The testing of new fighters on the deck of Navy's only air-carrying ship was conducted on Sept 28-29. According to the source, MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB aircrafts performed several landings and takeoffs on the deck of heavy air-carrying cruiser standing in Barents Sea.

The aircrafts are currently produced for Indian Navy, the customer of their development. Alongside with that, as Vedomosti newspaper recently said, Russian Navy plans to use them as the cruiser's air group. This information was confirmed by general designer of one of MIC companies, but MiG corporation officials withholded comments.

Multifunctional "4++"-generation fighter MiG-29K may be based on air-carrying vessels with displacement over 28 000 tonnes. It is distinguished by improved partially composite frame, folding wing, low signature, and enlarged fuel capacity. Maximum take-off weight is 24 500 kg, flight speed is 2 200 kph, operational ceiling is 17 500 m.
