First crew of NS Severodvinsk arrived at the sub 20.10.2009
First crew of nuclear submarine Severodvinsk arrived at the naval base to start service, said press service of city administration on Monday.

The crew formed in 2005 on basis of Northern Fleet Submarine Division 11 and have trained in Navy Training Center 270 in Sosnovy Bor will stay in Severodvinsk city until sub trials are completed.

Capt 1 rank Sergei Mityaev, submarine commander has already discussed prospects of cooperation with the mayor. Severodvinsk city administration and submarine crew are to sign a patronage agreement soon.

NS Severodvinsk is being constructed at Sevmash shipyard. The submarine will be commissioned in 2011, said Vice Admiral Oleg Burtsev, Deputy Chief of Navy Main HQ early March.

Severodvinsk is a multipurpose nuclear-powered submarine armed with cruise missiles. It is Project 855 Yasen lead ship.

Construction

Sub was laid down on Dec 21, 1993 at Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk.

Performance and dimensions

Surface speed is 16 knots, submerged speed is 31 knots, maximum diving depth is 600 meters, cruising capacity is 100 days, crew is 90 men, surface displacement is 8 600 tonnes, submerged displacement is 13 800 tonnes, maximum length is 119 meters, maximum beam is 13.5 meters, height is 9.4 meters.

Power plant

Severodvinsk is powered by water-cooled thermal reactor OK-650V, one shaft, one water-jet or low noise screw.

Armament

Severodvinsk is armed with 10 650-mm and 533-mm torpedo tubes, antiship cruise missiles P-100 Onyx, antiship cruise missiles X-35, strategic cruise missiles X-101, antiship cruise missiles 3M-54E and 3M-54E1, sea-land class cruise missiles 3M-14E.

According to Russian naval doctrine, Yasen-class subs are to be Russia's basic multipurpose nuclear-powered submarines. It is planned to build 30 Yasen subs, says Vzglyad.
