Ukrainian warships to be open for public on Independence Day

Ukrainian warships to be open for public on Independence Day 19.08.2011

Festivities associated with the Ukraine's Independence Day will start on Aug 22 with participation of Ukrainian Navy's commanding staff, personnel, and creative teams.

Solemn hoisting ceremony of Ukraine's national flag and wreath-laying at the monument to T.G. Shevchenko will take place near Ukrainian Navy HQ on Aug 23. Analogous ceremonies will be held at other administrative sites of naval units.

Later on that day, representatives of Ukrainian Navy command, military band of the Nakhimov Naval Academy, and Honor Guard Company will attend the colors ceremony at Sevastopol City Administration building.

Exhibitions of historical literature covering Ukrainian statehood will be arranged in libraries of officers' clubs, military units and academies. Naval museums and combat glory halls will show expositions named "Twenty years defending independence".

Festive activities will be also held at memorable sites and monuments; panel games, sport events and concerts will take place in all military units. Ukrainian marines will take part in liturgies and church services related to 20th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.

On Aug 24, naval ensigns and decoration flags will be triumphantly hoisted at all ships and units of Ukrainian Navy. High-ranking naval officers will lay wreaths at the monument to T.G. Shevchenko. In the naval bases, sailors will pay honors to memorials of outstanding figures in Ukrainian statehood, fighters for freedom and independence of Ukraine.

Warships and coastal units will be open for public. Relatives of servicemen will be allowed to see training facilities and living conditions of sailors.

Personnel of warships and units will visit Sevastopol museums and exhibitions related to the Ukraine's Independence Day.

As is planned, military band of the Nakhimov Naval Academy will give a festive concert at Nakhimov Square of Sevastopol on Aug 24 since 7 pm till 10 pm.

In the end of festivities program, there will be fireworks arranged in Sevastopol, Simferopol, and Kerch on Aug 24 at 10 pm.
