Over 5 000 residents of Feodosiya, Crimea will be evacuated on Tuesday, Oct 20 as mine pickers are expected to carry a huge WW2 German bottom mine outwards the city at that time, says press service of Ukrainian Ministry of Emergencies, Crimean branch.

"Inhabitants of 960 houses, 18 five-storey apartment buildings, personnel of a Russian Black Sea Fleet unit, employees and patients of a hospital will be evacuated", says the press release.

On Sunday morning two residents of Feodosiya found a mine which explosion yield is about 1 t. They thought ammunition at the bottom of Black Sea was a gas tank, beached the mine and were about to take it to the scrap-yard.

"Only when "ironworkers" knocked off the lid and saw a fuse mechanism, they tumbled to the fact that they're dealing with a real bomb but not the gas tank", says the press release.

According to the ministry's information, evacuation will start at 6.30 am by local time (7.30 am by Moscow time). A nursery, school and 23 shops will not work before noon. Dangerous area will be secured by police cordons.

"Two buses will be available for old people and persons with limited moving ability. Medical brigades will pull duty", says the press service.

Coast Guard was instructed to secure vessels keeping them out of the dangerous region.

When the mine is taken away, people will be allowed to return back to their places. The experts are planning to deactivate the mine at Chauda range near Feodosiya.
