US and Ukrainian naval divers: exchange of SR experience

US Navy delegation headed by Samson Mata, diving team leader arrived at Ukrainian Navy's Search and Rescue Operations Center on Oct 20. The delegation is engaged in matters of training mobile SR diving teams in Europe.

The purpose of the US naval divers' visit is to show operating techniques of diving equipment handed over to Ukrainians by the US Navy as material aid, and to demonstrate capabilities, equipment and methods of US Navy mobile diving SR teams.

Ukrainian party delegated working group led by Capt 2 rank Viktor Dvukhshorstnov, Director of SR Operations Center and Chief of Ukrainian Navy SR Service.

In the course of the meeting American guests were briefed with structure and tasks of Ukrainian SR Operations Center, cooperation between Ukrainian and the US Navies. The guests inspected equipment of Ukrainian divers and visited rescue tug Kremenets.

In their turn, American divers told Ukrainian colleagues about purpose, capabilities and development programs of US Navy diving units.

At the end of the visit, the parties discussed issues of individual and group training of diving units, conducting diving and search-and-rescue operations. They also carried out practical training on operation and maintenance of diving equipment.

It is important to note that this visit is held under Defense Cooperation Program between US European Command and Ukrainian Armed Forces and will be completed on Oct 24.
