Iran builds up state-of-the-art ship

09.11.2009
Iranian Defense Ministry conducts construction of up-to-date multipurpose warship, said last week acting commander of Iranian Navy. That was reported by Iranian news agency Press TV.

According to Rear Admiral Gholam-Reza Bigham, new ship will expand "deterrence capabilities" of the country. Thanks to large displacement, it will be capable to operate far from coastline.

New Iranian-made vessel will be among the world's most advanced warships, added Mr. Bigham.

Iranian Navy is entirely ready to defend territorial waters of the country and to cooperate with other states in enhancing regional security, said the admiral.

Nowadays Iran actively produces new domestic made missile boats, frigates, subs and different purpose vessels for its Navy. Manpower of Iranian Navy is about 18 000 men. Operational strength includes 4 destroyers, 4 frigates, 3 corvettes, over 20 missile boats, several amphibious and mine warfare vessels, over 10 submarines, more than 20 auxiliary vessels, about 10 aircrafts and helicopters.
