Enemy targets are in shot – Iranian top-ranking officer

23.11.2009
Enemy targets in the Persian Gulf are within shot of Iranian combat ships and they will decisively rebuff any aggression, said Sunday high-ranking officer of Iranian Navy. That was said by Fars News.

"Army and the Guards of Islamic Revolution are transferred on ultimate readiness level. They track all enemy movements and are ready to repel any attack on Iranian coast of Persian Gulf", said 1st Capt Abdul Khamid Kefayet, commander of Navy Base Khorramshahr.

Kefayet marked significant progress in escalation of combat equipment and military objects as compared to 30 years ago when Iraq launched the war with Iran. "Today we are proud to build all military facilities and infrastructure by ourselves, without foreign help", he added.

Thank to the state-of-the-art research centers were established, Iranian Navy's personnel do not need to train abroad any more, underlined Kefayet.

Some years ago Iran started rapid development of defense industry with intentions to reach self-sufficiency in weapons and technologies. Nowadays the republic produces domestically made fighters, armored vehicles, Stealth missiles and even modern warships.

Example of the latter is Ghadir midget subs. According to Iranian military sources, Ghadir-class submarine is low-observable for ASW means and capable to launch missiles and torpedoes simultaneously. One sub needs 10 years for construction; 7 such submarines are currently in service.

The defense ministry conducts construction of newest multipurpose combat vessel which will be one of the world's advanced ships, said Rear Admiral Gholam-Reza Bigham, acting Iranian Navy Commander-in-Chief in November.

Rear Admiral Khabibollah Sayari, Iranian Navy Commander-in-Chief said in February that the country's Navy would have new naval bases in Gulf of Oman by 2015. According to him, the objects are being currently constructed.

Present Iran actively arms its Navy with new guided missile boats, frigates, submarines and various kinds of ships. Manpower of Iranian Navy is around 18,000 men; it includes 4 destroyers, 4 frigates, 3 corvettes, over 20 GM boats, several landing ships and minesweepers, over 10 submarines, more than 20 auxiliary vessels and about 10 aircrafts and helicopters.
