The UN Security Council has condemned Israel for yesterday's attack on a humanitarian aid convoy for Palestinians and urged that the incident should be investigated. The statement was adopted following more than 12 hours of consultations, with almost all 15 Security Council member-states speaking their mind.

Russia, France and China called for lifting the economic blockade of Gaza. The United States gave to understand that measures against Palestinians should be eased. Israeli commandoes intercepted what is known as the Freedom Flotilla in the Mediterranean in the small hours of Monday. According to various estimates, from 9 to 19 people died when the commandoes stormed one of the ships.
