B-808 Yaroslavl is a Project 877 diesel electric submarine.

Northern Fleet, Polyarny

CONSTRUCTION, NAME

The submarine was laid down on September 29, 1986 at Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard (Gorky) under the name of B-808; launched on July 30, 1988; commissioned on December 27, 1988. The sub obtained the name of Yaroslavl on December 27, 1999 when she was taken under patronage of Yaroslavl city administration.

MILESTONES

In Feb-March 1992 the sub's crew performed interfleet cruise on same-type submarine B-177 from Black Sea Fleet to Northern Fleet. On Feb 24 the sub received mayday signal from French yacht Vie Belle off Portugal. The crew rendered medical aid to sick French sailor, having arranged rescue operation along with American and Portuguese naval aviation. The yacht's shipmaster filmed everything, so crewmembers of B-808 became French TV stars.

In 1995-2003 the sub was under interim overhaul at 35th Ship Repair Plant in Murmansk.

In 2007 the sub paid official friendly visit to Norwegian town Hokonsvern.

ARMAMENT Six 533-mm bow torpedo tubes (18 torpedoes or 24 mines); also suitable for launches of Club-S cruise missiles and Strela-3M/Igla-1 antiaircraft missiles.
