Russian defense ministry has no forbidden subjects to talk on with the press, it keeps nothing in the dark and is open to discuss any issues of army life. That was said by Russian defense minister Anatoly Serdiukov on Jan 12 prior to the Russian Press Day during traditional press conference in the ministry.

According to the minister, today new model of informational relations between armed forces and society has been formed, and it is based on the principles of maximal transparency and openness, interested and constructive partnership.

Russians must be well-informed about results of the reforms being conducted in the Armed Forces, emphasized Serdiukov.

The minister expressed belief that in 2011 interaction between defense ministry and journalistic community would reach the new and more qualitative level, developing in constructive and fruitful way.

Representatives of news agencies received gifts from the defense minister for their contribution to unprejudiced and all-round coverage of routine military activities.

The Russian Press Day – January 13 – was established in 1992 by the presidential order. The first publication of Russian printed newspaper Vedomosti was issued on Jan 13, 1703 under decree of Peter the Great.
