PF head traumatologist convicted of helping radical islamite
20.11.2009
Head traumatologist of Pacific Fleet Evgeny Belousov was committed by Vladivostok Court Martial to 50,000 rub fine for rendering illegal medical aid to injured Islamic gang member. That was said Friday by representative of PF Military Procuracy.
It was found out by investigation that in March 2009 Col. Belousov, the head of Traumatology Department of Naval Clinical Hospital rendered medical care to a man with bullet wound in forearm. The man turned to be a member of Vladivostok's radical Islamic organization. Later on, the doctor operated on the man and provided post-operative care to him.
The criminal was wounded in the night of March 7, 2009 during a raid on three Chinese businessmen; one of them died later. At the same night the gang nest with five bandits was assaulted by special unit. Three criminals were killed during the skirmish, two were arrested.
Col. Belousov was incriminated part 1 clause 285 of the RF Criminal Code (abuse of office).Prosecutors were insisting on clause 290 (bribetaking) providing custodial sentence for a term up to seven years. That request of prosecution was not satisfied despite the fact that the doctor had taken 25,000 rub from Islamite for illegal medical aid.
Conviction of the colonel is the cassation of an acquitting. On July 31 Vladivostok Court Martial acquitted Belousov as he had performed his professional duty and rendered help to Russian citizen who had right to get such help.
New verdict has not taken legal effect yet and would probably be appealed.
