Pentagon: USA, South Korea to hold ASW drills in Sept
19.08.2010
Pentagon declared plans of the US Navy and S Korean Navy to conduct subsequent joint exercise in the Yellow Sea in Sept, reports Thursday Yonhap News.
This time main objective of maneuvers will be practicing of co-operative antisubmarine operations.
The declaration was made on Wednesday and aroused negative reaction from N Korea and China.
According to statements of S Korean authorities, several stages of the exercise are "the response" on incident with corvette Cheonan torpedoed by N Korean sub.
Pentagon's proposal to hold joint maneuvers was made despite the fact that current stage of exercise which started on Monday has not been finished yet.
Previous "naval meeting" between the U.S. and S Korea was held late July in the Sea of Japan.
