Russian-Indian missile system BrahMos was tested today at Chandipur range, Orissa (India), reports Indo-Asian News Service (IANS).

Prior to the tests, over three thousand villagers living nearby the range were evacuated for reasons of safety.

Latest trials of BrahMos cruise missile was conducted on Sept 5. The experts checked the missile's capability to hit mountain targets.

Joint venture BrahMos Aerospace has designed new missile system under the code name of Block-2 which has greater maneuverability than the first version of BrahMos, and is capable to hit small-size targets.

Russian-Indian company BrahMos Aerospace is named in honor of rivers in India and Russia – Brahmaputra and Moskva. Supersonic cruise missiles produced by the company have a flight range of 290 km and are in inventory of Indian Navy and Army.
