Rasmussen thinks Russia won't use Mistral against NATO

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen is sure that Russia will not use Mistral-class ships against NATO members, reports Reuters.
"I take it for granted that Russia ... being NATO's partner will not use this equipment against any of NATO ally", said Rasmussen on Friday during visit to Prague.
The head of North Atlantic alliance said that "NATO has all appropriate plans to protect and defend any ally".
Recently, officials from three Baltic countries and Georgia expressed their concern of Russia's view to buy French Mistral-type helicopter carrier.
On Wednesday, March 3 the alliance leader has already expressed hope that "all international laws and regulations will be followed" during Mistral sale.
Rasmussen underlined that the sale is not a NATO issue and French president had not informed him about coming transaction.
According to NATO leader, he understands concern of some members of alliance taking into account historical background.
Landing helicopter carrier Mistral has total displacement of 21,000 tons; length is 200 meters; beam is 32 meters; speed is 19 knots; operating range is 20,000 nm. It is capable to carry six helicopters on the deck and four landing cutters or two air-cushion ships as well as 450 marines inside.
