Nikolai Filchenkov is a Project 1171 Large Landing Ship (LLS).

REGISTRATION

Black Sea Fleet

CONSTRUCTION, NAME

The ship was laid down on January 30, 1974 at Yantar shipyard (Kaliningrad); launched on March 29, 1975; commissioned on December 30, 1975.

MILESTONES

Being deployed in zones of military conflicts at Middle East, the ship multiply rendered international assistance.

In March-July 1976 and since November 1977 till January 1978 it was based in ports of Angola.

The ship was multiply deployed at the Mediterranean and the Read Sea, Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

Since 1975 till 2004 it was eight times ranked as a ship of excellence as per year results.

The best ship of Black Sea Fleet among 2nd rank ships in 1996 and 1997.

In August 2000 it performed 4 voyages from loading terminal Gonio (near Batumi) to discharge terminal Utrishenok (near Novorossiysk) carrying a part of armament and weapons of Russian force based in Transcaucasia.

On March 23, 2005 as agreed upon with Ukrainian competent authorities, the ship crossed Ukrainian state border and carried out landing drill near Feodosiya. Ukrainian MFA charged Russian party of "crude violation of bilateral agreement of status and presence terms of Russian Black Sea Fleet at Ukrainian territory".
