Pacific Fleet Anti-Piracy Task Unit Returned to Vladivostok 03.05.2012

Pacific Fleet (PF) destroyer Admiral Tributs, tanker Pechenga, and seagoing tug MB-37 returned today to PF main naval base Vladivostok fr om anti-piracy deployment.

The unit left Vladivostok on Dec 10, 2011 for the Horn of Africa wh ere sea pirates annoy global shipping.

Through over three months, PF mariners led by Capt 1 rank Ildar Akhmerov have escorted five commercial convoys via safety corridor in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. Not even once sea robbers dared to attack those convoys.

According to Eastern Military District Press Service, during the deployment the ships called at ports of Djibouti and Victoria (Republic of Seychelles). In the latter port they held bilateral anti-piracy exercise.

Being on the combat watch, PF servicemen met with NATO counterparts and held joint underway replenishment exercise. NATO and EU were represented by Turkish frigate TCG Giresun, Spanish supply ship SPS Patiño, and American destroyer USS Halsey. PF press service described that exercise held on Jan 31 as "unique". For the first time ever Russian and foreign ships transferred fresh water and fuel under way.

In addition, destroyer Admiral Tributs, tanker Pechenga, and tug MB-37 took part in the large-scale Russian-Chinese exercise Maritime Cooperation 2012 held in Apr 22-28 in the Yellow Sea.

Today the task unit was triumphantly met in Vladivostok by the fleet's command and families of the crewmen.
