25.11.2009
Newest ships and boats will maintain security of South Ossetian and Abkhazian borders, said Wednesday Gen. Col. Alexander Manilov, the head of coordination service of CIS Border Forces commanders' council.
According to him, state-of-the-art radar, optical and thermal vision systems will be also applied in enhancing security under bilateral agreements.
Border protection will be very reliable, assured Mr. Manilov.
Gen. Lt. Evgeny Inchin, head of Frontier Guard Department and Deputy Director of FSB Border Service stated in August that Russian FSB Coast Guard in cooperation with Abkhazian Frontier Service would provide security of vessels entering territorial waters of Abkhazia.
Coast Guard patrol ship Novorossiysk had started patrolling Abkhazian sea border, said press service of Abkhazian branch of FSB Border Service in September. According to the press service spokesman, Novorossiysk is a first patrol ship of Coast Guard division which is being presently formed and planned to include up to 10 boats of new projects – Sobol and Mangust.
