Somali pirates have released a Bermudan-flagged fridge ship in exchange for a two-and-a-half-million-dollar ransom. All 25 crewmembers, 23 Sri Lankans, a Filipino and a Syrian, are reported alive and well. The Talka was seized on the 23rd of March 120 nautical miles off Oman.

At noon on May 11 the ship MV Panega sailing under the Bulgarian flag was captured in the Gulf of Aden. The ship was headed from the Red Sea to India. All of the captured sailors are citizens of Bulgaria.

Pirates have seized a Greek ship off Somalia. The China-bound vessel manned by a 23-member predominantly Philippino crew, was carrying metal from Ukraine. On Tuesday, a Bulgarian chemical tanker was hijacked in the same area.

Viking Air of Victoria, BC, Canada and the Vietnam Navy have finalized a purchase agreement for six DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft. With this historic purchase the Vietnam Ministry of Defense has acquired its first-ever western built-aircraft, and the formation of the Navy's initial fixed-wing-aircraft Air Wing.

05.06.2010 Gunpowder detected in South Korea ship wreckage
Investigators have found traces of gunpowder in the wreckage of a sunken South Korean naval ship, a government official said on Thursday, further bolstering suspicions of a North Korean attack. Along with four pieces of aluminum collected from the scene earlier, the gunpowder adds to a possible evidence of a torpedo attack.

US Navy officials today announced they are moving ahead with plans to integrate women onto submarines beginning in late 2011 or early 2012. The decision became public after Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates notified Congress in February of the Navy's desire to add women to submarines.
